The Promise

She moved from the window
Made barely a sound
Felt her knees weaken
She fell to the ground
She clung to the bare floor
Her loss cold as stone
Mortality shattered
She would die here alone

Then a light filled the room
And it gathered her pain
For the promise was hers
Hers alone to now claim

They had spoken the words
Long ago in their past
A vow she'd forgotten
That their love would outlast
All foe, theft or fire
Any knife, sword or blade
An eternal promise
Their love would not fade!
