This image is my entry for the What it's Like contest at mental-health.
For me the battle with PTSD and depression has been like a child lost in a forest. Sometimes it is dark and scary and there is no visible way out. At other times the foliage recedes, a path is found and I come into bright sunlight and warmth.
Like that child my forest is filled with sadness and joy, grotesqueness and beauty, the loneliness of fear and the companionship bravery can bring. The challenge is to keep moving and know that with each step I will discover new things and, hopefully, they will help me to find brighter paths.
I have chosen to show my "inner child" in sunlight, moving across a bridge that leads to a lighter, yet still unknown, future.
